A Banksy mural painted just before the Diamond Jubilee last year has vanished from a London street and been listed for sale at a US auction site.

As you have probably noticed, this little blog (~150k followers) is lacking some activity. But why, I hear you think. Well, the fact is that the guy behind this Tumblr and the corresponding Facebook page has always been busy with several online and offline (street) art related projects.

Is it kosher for someone on the other side of the world to be selling famous images by Banksy, that are obviously a very bad copy ? Marketing them as original stencil artworks and not prints ??

All this stuff about being a "sell out" reminds me of when I was a teenager and fans wanted to keep their favorite bands a secret, all to themselves, as if that's why the band made music, just for this tiny group of people. As if an artist had to be starving or unloved or unappreciated to be considered authentic while they are still alive, though of course if you die, you automatically become authentic. Sorry that's not a question, just an observation of some of the childish comments posted.

Who the fuck cares is Banksy makes money off of his art. It's HIS ART and he's getting money for doing doing something he loves, which is what most people dream of. He's not compromising his beliefs or anything for the money. So in what way do people believe he's a sellout?

I have never ever seen a valid argument to label him as a sellout. If you look at the street art scene very closely like we do, you can never label him like that. Other street artists are far more commercially minded than him.

Have you seen Exit Through The Gift Shop? You can't honestly believe that Banksy is in no way a "sell out" after watching that. Don't get me wrong... I love his work, but please. Also, they sell his art as wall decals on Amazon... I work in licensing and I find it extremely hard to believe that Amazon would sell copyrighted artwork like that. Unless to you decals are not part of "selling out". And I don't think anything is wrong with commissioned walls! I think they are great! Go Shepard Fairey!

Of course I have seen the humorous documentary one thousand times before. First of all, his work is not copyrighted. Second, he doesn’t do commissioned walls. And I find it hard to believe that he sells stuff on Amazon, he has other ways to get funded (he did some exhibitions, produced Exit Through the Gift Shop and did and intro for The Simpsons).

In response to your comment about Banksy NOT being a sell-out and not selling t-shirts etc...I was just wondering who exactly does get the money for the cards and t-shirts? Or, because his art is entirely public, does a reproduced image of such fall under that sort of category? And I'm not being facetious....I'd genuinely like to know.

The people taking his art and putting it on the cards and shirts earn that money. Ofcourse Banksy himself makes money, but it’s not by selling merchandise.

True, it’s like he deliberately chose to be part of the pop culture. He just did what he has always done and what millions are doing on the streets every day and night, making great street art.
